Investigating Change in pH

Method

  • Place a beaker
  • Measure 50cm3 of hydrochloric acid
  • Dip a glass rod into the acid and put onto universal indicator paper on a white tile
    • Wait 30s and record pH of acid and the colour of the paper
      • Wash the glass rod to be used in a repeating step
  • Measure 0.3g of calcium hydroxide in a weighing boat
  • Add calcium hydroxide to acid and stir until all the hydroxide is dissolved
  • Repeat the step of dipping the rod onto the universal indicator paper
    • Repeat the experiment until the total mass of 2.4g of calcium hydroxide is added
